Love and other indoor sports......
In which I recount the events of today.
Got up early to take The Girl to her ENT (ears, nose, and throat specialist). After dropping her off at day care, we had breakfast at McDonald's. I went back home and she went off to work. I checked email and LJ, and then took a nap. After waking up, I checked mesages again, returned a couple of calls, went to the library, and went to the market to get some more things for dinner....and a box of Godiva chocolates.
I cleared off the dining room table, shooed the cats off the table, set out the plates, butterfly-cut the filet mignons, placed them on a cookie sheet, and placed them under the broiler (400 degrees, if it matters, for about 10-15 minutes). I heated the twice-baked potato and green beans amandine in the microwave. At this point, The Wife and The Girl came home. I then opened the bottle of Cheap Red Wine -- it said so on the label -- and poured two glasses. The steaks looked and smelled like they were ready to eat, so I took them out and placed them on the plates. I also brought out the sliced crusty sourdough bread and butter. For dessert, R had a raspberry mousse roll wrapped in chocolate. All told, it was a wonderful Valentine's Day feast. The steaks turned out wonderfully -- they came out medium and not medium-well, but they were moist and tender. I should use the broiler more often.
Then we gave The Girl a bath, and she got to watch some of her favorite DVDs afterward, including Hello Kitty, the Muppet Show, and Mickey's Once Upon A Christmas. (Yes, she still watches Christmas DVDs, even though it's no longer the season.)
And I just finished writing a poem recounting our first Valentine's Day together at Ravenwood Castle.
