I actually spent time pondering this last night. It wasn't the request, but the fact that it was a meme which sent me off. I'm not really sure why.

Good for you for knowing what you need and requesting it. I just...I don't know why it should make a difference to me that instead of being your words and your need expressed, but a meme that makes a difference. I suppose because when it's one person asking, and one person receiving, it's a genuine outpouring of support. When everyone's doing it, it's all set up to be a popularity contest. I think that's the difference, in my head. (And, seeing how misearbly I came out in any sort of popularity contest in school, I can see why this might have some nasty resonances for me.)

Again, it is good that you've decided to ask outright for support, since I know from experience that when one is feeling down, one is caught inside one's own head and can't see what regard others actually hold for one.
