Last week, I went to an orientation session on the Workplace Investment Act (WIA) and began the application process. I was pursuing this as an avenue for funding additional training. Yesterday, I completed the application process and provided the requested paperwork. Today, my caseworker presented my case to the board. The board's response? I am marketable with the skill set I have right now.

The problem is, they're not computer literate. They think that since you know several computer languages you should be able to find work as a programmer. The fact that your skill set is somewhat outdated, is too difficult a concept for them to grasp.

Heh.

I have the same problem explaining the situation to my parents. That think that with 15 years of experience, I should be able to get any computer job I want. But it doesn't work that way. IT is not like a traditional skilled trade, with apprentices, journeymen, and masters. Mostly because the technology changes so much.
