Boycotts.....

Yesterday's "Writer's Block" topic was boycotts: What companies do you boycott and why?

Here's my list.

Domino's Pizza. Not because of the quality of their pizzas (and no, I haven't tried their new pizzas yet), but the owner, Tom Monaghan, is VERY Catholic and allegedly supports militant pro-life groups like Project Rescue.

Walmart. I used to like them, but they dropped their "Bring It Home to the USA" program years ago and still doesn't allow their employees to unionize. Surely a company as large and powerful as Walmart isn't afraid of a little collective bargaining.

Subby's. A local chain based in Dayton, Ohio. They put mayonnaise on everything by default, and their sandwiches just don't taste that good to me.

Most high-end steakhouses, because I can't afford to eat at them.

I'm not exactly boycotting BP these days. Many of the retailers are independent franchisers. And the closed the one near me years ago. I just won't go out of my way to buy gas at BP.

The Microtel in Erie, PA. They screwed up a reservation on me by placing it in the wrong month. They never apologized for their error; all they said was their computer was down. (Thanks heaps, Ann!) I won't boycott the rest of the chain, though.

The Perkins in Miamisburg, OH. I once ordered steak and eggs there. The steak was underdone. Their waitress said it wasn't, and the manager backed her up, not me.

There's probably more, but I can't think of them at the moment. I'll add to this list later.

Oh, and a certain science fiction convention in Cincinnati, Ohio. I previously mentioned them on my LJ. I boycott them because of their price-gouging, and nothing's changed over the years.
