Fields of Gold redux

Give it up for new LJ friends [livejournal.com profile] quadrivium and [livejournal.com profile] integrity!

Well, it's raining again here in Souhwest Ohio. My wife and I just got back from Elsa's, a local Mexican food restaurant. If you like margaritas, try their "Bad Juan"! It's got kick!

I found out what those yellow flowers are that have invaded the cornfields around me. It's called butterweed. There was a story on the radio about how it's spread to nearly the entire state, when it grew in only four counties last year. They look like little yellow daisies. I found several references to it on the web, when I did a Google search on "butterweed". It even has some medicinal purposes, but I'll leave that to those more experienced in herbal lore than myself.

BTW, the butterweed fields I've seen aren't as golden as they were a few weeks ago. It looks like they've lost their bright yellow color; now they're more like a tan/brown color. And some of the fields have been plowed and corn is starting to grow in them. That means it's time for the ultimate Ohio pastime (other than going to a Reds or Indians game): watching the corn grow!
