Drat! Drat! Double drat!
Just checked my checking account online. My overdraft line is tapped out, and savings is nil. I bounced three checks (at $20 a pop), and three debit transactions that didn't have the funds to cover them when they finally "cleared" (at $25 a pop). That's $115 in fees. And this is a credit union I'm dealing with!
I really hate getting gouged like this. It's like getting penalized for being poor and unemployed. Whoever said "the middle class works fo the banks" was spot on.
Thankfully I was able to stem the tide of red ink by transferring some money from my credit card to my checking account (since they're with the same institution). But I can't afford to do that for long -- my line of credit is good, but not that good.
