Drat.

Last week, I went to an orientation session on the Workplace Investment Act (WIA) and began the application process. I was pursuing this as an avenue for funding additional training. Yesterday, I completed the application process and provided the requested paperwork. Today, my caseworker presented my case to the board. The board's response? I am marketable with the skill set I have right now.

*sigh*

Did they give you any clues as to WHERE to market?

It must be the beard.

That's all I can think of.

Because, see, it makes no friggin' sense, so it must be true.

Either that or you are covered in invisible katydids.

Oh. I uh, yeah. I knew that. I was making sure you did.

Honest.

Good. Tell them to market you, since they were so clear. Have them provide you leads, or agencies and contacts, or have them provide you training. They are public servants; let them serve, dammit.

The problem is, they're not computer literate. They think that since you know several computer languages you should be able to find work as a programmer. The fact that your skill set is somewhat outdated, is too difficult a concept for them to grasp.

Can you touch your toes? That ability got me turned down for disability. Seriously...the disability doc decided that if I can bend over, I can work.
