TW-3 for May 11-13, 2007......
Fri 5/11: Had a "study break" luncheon at work where those of us taking the Java class could ask questions of the two Java experts we have in the company. After the luncheon, I left early. I did some shopping at the Prime Outlets mall in Jeffersonville before getting picked up for a trip to the Red Bird Center in Cambridge, OH. This was the weekend of one of the two annual center Work Days and for those of us in The Mankind Project, community building. We arrived on site at around 5 pm and soon began constructing what would become the sweat lodge. The fire was built, the stones were placed, and the frame was covered. All of this was done in reverance to the native traditions. The sweat lodge is used for purification and renewal. Several us participated in the lodge, including the center's director, who is of Native American descent. Being in the lodge is like being in a darkened steam room. Afterward, we had a small feast of sandwiches, cookies, and fruit.
Sat 5/12: Slept surprisingly well. (I usually don't sleep well in strange beds, or places I haven't slept before.) Woke up to fellowship and breakfast. At 8 am, we circled around the campfire and introduced ourselves. We then got started on the day's tasks. Several of the men worked on tearing down an old house trailer. A few worked on cleanup of the interior of the main building. I worked on one of the center's computers, and cleaned up one of the other sweat lodge sites. At noon, we broke for lunch. Afterward, I worked on loading up a pickup truck with firewood and taking the wood to the three lodge sites. Meanwhile, a couple of the men used a backhoe to dig some drainage lines -- one away from the main building, another toward the site of the house trailer (another one will be put in its place). At 5, we stopped for dinner. And what a feast it was! I left around 6, and arrived home around 9:15. I watched the Sabres/Senators game, and fell asleep during overtime. (I recently found out that Ottawa won this game, which means they lead the series, 2-0. :-( )
Sun 5/13: Worked on copying the data from the hard drive of the old 486 computer that my daughter used for computer games. After the data was copied and backed up, I started the process to delete and wipe the drive's contents. While the drive was being wiped, I met R and M at Adventure Golf, and we played a round and a half, until M decided she didn't want to play any more. I tried to get a rain check for the unfinished round, but the staff there wouldn't give us one. We then went to Burger King for dinner. After I got home, I called my mom to wish her a happy Mother's Day. As for the disk wipe, it was mostly, but not completely, successful. There are some files that are locked and hidden. Found out that last week's episode of Blood Ties wasn't recorded due to a glitch in my tape. Hopefully I'll be able to record this week's episode without incident.
