Remembering the King of Pop.....

I heard the news last night after I got home from dinner.

My first exposure to Michael Jackson was a Saturday morning cartoon show featuring the Jackson 5. Does anyone else remember this show? Michael and his brothers -- no, don't ask me to name them -- would have these adventures, and they'd perform their songs during the episode.

Years later, I remember going out of my way in college to see his videos on MTV. We'd go to bars just to watch the premiere of his latest videos -- Thriller (still one of my all-time favorites), Bad, Remember the Time, Black or White. (I'm sure they'll be a DVD released soon.)

My interest in him and his music waned when he was brought up on child molestation charges the first time. I think that's when his career started to wane.

At the very least, the media can stop hounding him now.

Yup, I remember that show. (The Beatles also got similar treatment.)

I remember disco dancing when almost every track of Michael's "Off the Wall" album was in the rotation at the disco. Dated as that sounds, I now regret ever having given up disco for the spousal unit; that was the beginning of my weight gain.

And of course, the pet rat communities on the non-filker part of my friends list are linking to the YouTube video of "Ben."

I remember the TV show, not only did the Beatles get similar treatment but so did the Osmond Brothers (who were on either right after or right before the Jackson 5.

Like you I enjoyed his music until the first child molestation charge, & how weird he just kept becoming.

I loved Thriller & have a very cherished memory of my then 36 month old son singing & moon walking to Billy Jean.

I'm sorry that his children are left without a father, but maybe now his soul can be at peace. I hope that on his next turn of the wheel that he's has a lot more stability in every factor of his life.

I vaguely remember the TV show, but not in a good way. The reaction to his death makes me feel like I must be the only person in the world to dislike ABC and the Jackson Five sound.

I have no ill will for the man; I just thought he was vastly overhyped and a minor talent at best.

ABC & Javkson Five Sound

I was a kid when ABC was being overplayed, it was easy to remember & very catchy, but of all the sounds from my childhood the only J 5 music that still has any meaning for me are "I'll Be There" and "Ben"

He was over-hyped I admit, but honestly if he had written solely for other people a lot more of his music would have had a lot more meaning for me.

Scrawny guy with falsetto voice trying to sing anything is gonna grate on most nerves. But songs like "Man in the Mirror" and "Blood on the Dance Floor" if sung by a good baritone or a second tenor could heve been great songs IMO.

For it's time Thriller was a great album even if one of the best things about it was Vincent Price.

But hey each their own.

I remember that cartoon, too.
