20 song lyrics. Name those tunes.....

Thanks go to [livejournal.com profile] cadhla and [livejournal.com profile] filkerdave for this week's trivia quiz: The following are lyrics from 20 different songs. Name those tunes.

1. Clippings from ancient newspapers lie scattered across the floor
2. He'd like to come in colors; he don't know which one
3. One chromosome too many
4. There's Howard Hughes in blue suede shoes
5. You're the one they can't beat and you know it
6. You've had your cry, no I should say wail
7. When I arrived, I found nobody there
8. Photographs are grey and torn
9. Wish the sun to stand still
10. I've been here and I've been there and I've been in between
11. When will you write your masterpiece?
12. The notes go flying off in the air
13. But being brought to justice, that was my only crime
14. Spying for the side that pays him the most
15. A SUNY student with mousey brown hair
16. And this is artificial moonlight
17. Call the police! There's a madman around!
18. The planet Earth from way up here is beautiful and blue
19. Stop for a pint in the Woodman
20. If I could choose, I'd calm this dawn

Some of these may be easy; some may be stumpers. As usual, try to do this from memory only. (I did, which may explain why some of these may be slightly inexact.) Web searching and the Mighty Wurlitzer Jukebox in the corner are off-limits. Cheaters will be thoroughly flogged with a wet noodle.
Answers (and 20 more lyric lines) to be posted next week.

#7 is definitely Renaissance, "A Trip to the Fair" (or "Feh" as Annie sings it).

#17..urm..Pet Shop Boys, "West End Town," I think it's called. Now that I'm not trying to sing it to "London Calling"

#5 is a Styx song...dammit...on the type of my tongue. Is it called "Fooling Yourself?"

Arg...11 is an older Billy Joel song, but damfino which one.

#4 is Broadway Melody of 1974 from The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway by Genesis. one of the all-time great concept albums, and a show in the same neighborhood as The Wall. Who's got the movie rights?

#7 is A Trip to the Fair by Renaissance

#10 is I Talk to the Wind by King Crimson

#11 is James by Billy Joel

#15 is Southern California Wants to Be Western New York by Dar Williams.

I feel like I should know #8 and #9, but they are eluding me, so far
