folkmew.....
What year was it?
1977-81
What were your three favorite bands?
Styx, Supertramp, and Kansas.
What was your favorite outfit?
Winter: Corduroy pants, a turtleneck, and a flannel shirt.
Summer: Jeans and T-shirts.
Least favorite outfit: Hand-me-downs.
What was up with your hair?
I tried parting it down the middle in 10th grade. Didn't work out. Some of the hockey players had nice hair, and wanted their hairstyles.
Who were your best friends?
I had friends? Most of the folks I were with were merely acquaintances. Let's see....
From the extended neighborhood: Mike Polino, Vic Considine, Charlie Dickson, Alan & Kevin Payne, Karl Chonka, Ed Ruslander, Jeff Wells, Kirk Komosara. We lived in the same plat and went to elementary school together. Haven't heard much from them after graduating from high school.
Then there were the guys I knew from my Boy Scout troop: Mike Yorke, Chuck Thomas, Tom Dow.
And a few from the bands and/or advanced-level classes: Joe Muhitch, Steve Longo, Mark White, Chuck Schmidt, Dave Limina, Paul Iorio, Matt Trotter, Mike Reen, Jim Pancook.
About the only one I've stayed in contact with from those days is Howard Trachtman.
What did you do after school?
Marching band, gaming club, the math team, the school musicals (10th thru 12th grade).
Where did you work?
I had a paper route in my neighborhood.
Did you take the bus?
Yep. It was an hour's walk to the high school, including crossing a very busy street.
Who did you have a crush on?
Oh, God. Can I skip this? No? Carolyn Stoiber, Karen Kensek, Cathy Backes, Christine Gotthelf, Lisa Guck. Naturally, none of the crushes were mutual.
Did you fight with your parents?
Yeah, I did. I forgot what we fought about. One of the things was the way I rearranged my room.
Who did you have a CELEBRITY crush on?
Who was the girl in the Nancy Drew Mysteries? Pamela Sue Martin? Yeah, her. And Lynda Carter. Wonder Woman! Yow!
Did you smoke cigarettes?
Nope. Nor did I do drugs then. But some of us drank, and shot off firecrackers.
Did you lug all of your books around in your backpack all day because you were too nervous to find your locker?
I had a locker, but it was in an inconvenient place.
Did you have a 'clique'?
Not really. I mostly hung out with the band folks and the advanced-placement class students. But I was on the fringe of those crowds.
Admit it, were you popular?
Hell no!
Who did you want to be just like?
Nobody in particular. Just me.
What did you want to be when you grew up?
An engineer, but not after I toured the Calspan plant. They got to crash cars there!
Where did you think you'd be at the age you are now?
I didn't think I'd make it this far. The farthest out I thought I'd be was the year 2000.
