poltr1Y'know, the more words I hear coming out of this man's mouth, the more I'm convinced he's the Great Satan that all the other conservative Christians have warned us about. Either that or he's going senile in his old age.
Here's what he said this time.
On Monday, on his show The 666 Club (yeah, I recounted 'em and 34 members were really cardboard stand-ins), he said the following about Venezuelan persident Hugo Chavez: "If he thinks we're trying to assassinate him, I think that we really ought to go ahead and do it.....It's a whole lot cheaper than starting a war.....We have the ability to take him out, and I think the time has come that we exercise that ability. We don't need another $200 billion war to get rid of one strong-arm dictator. It's a whole lot easier to have some of the covert operatives do the job and then get it over with."

Of course, he has since apologized, saying he was taken out of context and misinterpreted by the media. Oh, how conveeeenient.
Here's a man who uses his wealth, power and position as a bully pulpit from which he spews his bile and hatred. He's been doing this for years. And because he's a "friend" of the Bushco administration, he gets away with it. If you or I had said something like that, we'd be branded as terrorists, put on the no-fly lists, and watched by the FBI.
Now, the civil libertarian in me says that he should have his freedom of speech. Even though I disapprove of what he says, I should defend to the death his right to say it. But the social liberal in me says that I and no one else should have to listen to him. Ignore him and he'll just go away. The rational man in me wonders why people still watch his show and send him money. He may call himself a Christian, but he is in no way Christ-like. And the vengeance demon in me says that we should hang him....by his tongue. Give him what he deserves! (By the way, how is that Wicker Man coming along? >:-) )
