After a few weeks of monitoring memory usage, I'm no closer to finding out why I keep running out of available memory, or what program(s) is/are causing it. Damn memory leaks. I guess I'll just have to throw in the towel, break out the platic money (the card has a stress fracture along the magnetic strip -- I kid you not), and buy some Mo' Mem'ry! (My local/favorite computer shop -- The Computer Zoo -- has a 128 Mb PC100 SDRAM chip for $55. Unfortunately they don't carry any 256 Mb PC100 SDRAM chips.)

I'm still getting carrier drops from my ISP. Sometimes I'll be on for hours at a time and not get dropped. Sometimes I'll get dropped while downloading email or a webpage. I do know that the phone line doesn't "lock in" to the modem card, no matter how far I push it in. I think it's blocked by the case's metal bar between the slots. But I'm not sure that's causing the line noise.

Now, I've not had any drops on my laptop plugged into the downstairs phone jacks. Perhaps I should use that for any download of large files.
