Well, I went to the doctor today to get my quarterly checkup and my meds. And I got stuck with Nurse Pat. (And yes, I was civil and polite to her.)

Okay, she's not exactly Nurse Ratchet, but I just find her irritating. First, she doesn't read my chart before entering the exam room. It's like I'm a brand new patient every time she sees me. There's no memory of past visits. Second, she keeps forgetting that I don't live near the doctor's office. I have some blood work, and she suggested the lab in the office. Well, that's very helpful, but your office is 22 miles away from my house. Can you suggest something closer to me?

Why I get mad is that I have certain expectations of her, and she continually fails to meet them. Hello -- I'm a regular here! I expect to be treated as such. Or is HIPAA so stringent that it prevents medical caregivers from establishing a rapport with their patients?

The bad news: My weight's back up to 245. And I thought I was less than that. :-(

Oh yeah. My mortgage company sent me a "love note" last week saying they want proof of insurance. They sent me the same note about 18 months ago. Did they lose the paperwork? Or can't they comprehend that the policies are automatically renewed every year? (I live in a condo, so there's a building policy and a contents policy.) Oh, and they were gracious enough to stickprovide me with a 60-day policy that will automatically be extended, but I'd have to pay for it via my escrow account. And furthermore, the letter was dated June 17 but the postmark date was July 22. What I want to know is -- is this typical?

Perhaps it's time to either switch lenders, or write a letter of complaint to both the Better Business Bureau and the state Attorney General's Office.
