For the past couple of days, I've gone into "spring cleaning" mode. I've been itching to get rid of the paper file accumulation I have in my home. This has been accumulating for 20-25 years.

What types of things get saved? Things I'd like to read again or have at ready reference -- recipes, newspaper clippings, things I found humorous, et al. I feel some level of comfort to know that I can get at these things whenever I want. (ButI can't get at them easil if they're unorganized. That's just data.)

But why do I feel the need to save them? Because I want to be self-sufficent; I don't want to have to borrow from someone. And if I threw these things away, I or someone else will be wanting them a few weeks from now.

It's also been my wall, my sanctuary, my isolation from other people. But it's not safe for my daughter. And I no longer have the time or the spoons to devote to maintaining these paper files.

Thankfully the local dump takes paper for recycling -- all types. I don't have to sort it by paper type!

For some items, it's easy. For some, it's hard. If I can reduce the total file size to 50% of what it was, I'd be happy.
