poltr1No more French Fries on Capitol Hill? Slate magazine, among other sources, reports that Rep,. Bob Ney (R-OH) has decreed that the cafeterias of the House of Representatives' three office buildings will no longer serve French fries and French toast, in protest of France's threat to veto a UN resolution authorizing the use of force. Instead, they will be renamed "Freedom Fries" and "Freedom Toast".
No word as to whether the French Onion soup will be summarily renamed.
It's a little early for Idiot of the week, but I am submitting Rep. Ney's name. If he's going to boycott everything French, he'll have to include many of the aircraft engines that power many of the commercial airplanes out there, especially the CFM56. One of the major jet engine manufacturers is CFM International, a joint venture between GE Aircraft Engines (based in Evendale, Ohio, and not in Rep. Ney's district) and (surprise!) Snecma Moteurs of France.
