I did have to work as a telemarketer. (*) And yes, we were not allowed to accept "no" for an answer until the 3rd "no." I don't recall if the management ever came up with a counter strategy to "No, no, NO!"
(*) Yes, I was laid off & desperate. It was better than prostitution, but didn't feel like much better. I'm a scientist, now.
