The folks who run the Mega Millions multi-state lottery have raised the stakes from $476 million to $540 million (yesterday) to $640 million (today), based on ticket sales.

If you plan to buy a ticket, do so now. Don't wait until the last minute. I'm not even sure their computer systems can handle the anticipated load.

So, if the impossible happend, and I did win, what would I do? As originally quoted from my reply in [livejournal.com profile] dagonell's LJ....

What would I do if I won? First, I'd take the annuity over the lump sum. (I know my spending habits.)

With the first installment, I'd first pay off all my outstanding debts, including the mortgage on my condo. Second, I'd allocate myself $100K for the year. Third, I'd set up both a college fund and trust fund for my daughter. Fourth, I'd give to charitable and/or non-profit orgs I've been a part of in my life, or ones I believe do good for the community (example: .I'd write a $50K, or a $100K check to the local food bank).

I'd definitely found a foundation, dedicated to making this world a better place.

At no time would I give to the political parties. Most of their money is, in my opinion, wasted on media and propaganda campaigns.

And by even thinking about how I would spend the money, I'm probably jinxing myself. :-(
