20 Song Lyrics from 20 Songs - Round 4
Jun. 15th, 2004 12:51 pmAfter a few weeks on hiatus (and a nice tan!), the "20 Song Lyrics from 20 Songs" meme is back. To recap the rules, guess the song title and artist from which these lines come from. Web searching using any search engine is considered cheating.
61. Tires spitting gravel, I commit my weekly crime
62. I only taste the saline when I kiss away your tears
63. Fly me away to the bright side of the moon
64. I think I need a football team
65. They gave my daddy thirty silver coins
66. Mama says she's worried; growing up in a hurry
67. With a voice like Ella's ringing out, there's no way the band could lose
68. See the wizard at Park and 73rd
69. The book of love will open up and let us in
70. Suspend your disbelief in the superconductors
71. They take you to your limits; they take you beyond
72. No one comes to visit me in my little cloud
73. You can watch yourself while you are eating
74. Don't want the devil to come and put out your eyes
75. The snare of the fowler will never capture you
76. We can stay inside and play games
77. I was soaring ever higher, then I flew too high
78. If you give this man a ride, sweet family will die
79. Six is having problems adjusting to his clone status
80. At Delta Chi you can't go wrong

Date: 2004-06-15 10:15 am (UTC)#66 is "Magic Man" by Heart
#67 is "Sir Duke" by Stevie Wonder
#70 is "Monorail to Atomland" by Barry Childs-Helton (as done with Black Book Band)
#71 is "Wallflower" by Peter Gabriel
I think #76 is "Rikki Don't Lose That Number" by Steely Dan
#77 is "Carry On My Wayward Son" by Kansas
#78 is "Riders on the Storm" -- you were, I feel reasonably certain, listening to the Doors
#80 -- I don't honestly know the lyrics to the movie's theme, but this almost certainly is something in or referring to Animal House

#77 - Kansas, "Carry on, Wayward Son"
#78 - The Doors, "Riders on the Storm" (but isn't it "sweet memory" there?)
I probably shouldn't do this when I'm listening to music :)

Re: #78
Date: 2004-06-15 02:26 pm (UTC)I always thought it was "sweet family" -- Jim Morrison's poem called "The Hitchhiker" (on "An American Prayer") appears to back this up. (URL: http://www.thedoors.com/band/jim/?fa=poetry2)
FWIW, the webhits on Google seem to favor "sweet family" to "sweet memory" by about 10 to 1.
But another website -- http://www.amiright.com/misheard/index.shtml says that the correct lyric is "Sweet memory...".
So what's the correct lyric? Anyone got a copy of the sheet music or the LA Woman album or CD? Are the lyrics in there?
BTW, I usually listen to instrumentals when I put these together or guess at them. It keeps the mind clear and undistracted.
