Last week, I got a call from the moveon.org people asking to me participate in the "Leave No Voter Behind" campaign. I declined, saying that I was already signed up for a non-partisan activity that day, and to participate in "Leave No Voter Behind" would constitute a conflict of interest. Well, not entirely true. I knew about some non-partisan activity, but didn't have any specifics on it, and hadn't signed up at the time of the call.
Later that night, I looked through the email messages from truemajority.org, and found the message that I was looking for: a plug (and call for volunteers) for Election Protection. I liked what I saw, so I signed up. Dayton wasn't on the list, so I selected the next closest: Cincinnati. Southwest Ohio is a Republican stronghold, which means that the Democrats out there are either ignored or marginalized. I'll be in a teleconference for initial training, and driving down to Avondale for the in-person election eve training.
I think they're still looking for people, so please visit the web site and sign up to volunteer.
Meanwhile, I knocked off one item from my to-buy list. For years, I've been looking for a copy of Moog's Musical Eatery by Shirleigh Moog, first wife of Bob Moog. One of the local libraries had a copy, but I wanted one for myself. It's been out of print for years. Over the years, the Moogs hosted many famous musicians and artists. And yes, this is the book that inspired the name of the electronica band 'The Moog Cookbook'.
Last night, a quick visit to ABEBooks.com (USA) showed that copies were available at there different bookstores. I purchased the cheapest one ($6) and will have it shipped to me within the next two weeks. Hooray! (Now watch -- I'll find another copy at a local book fair.)
