Yesterday, I mentioned freecycling in my post. So....what is freecycling? It's a grass-roots movement to keep things out of landfills by finding new homes for things that would ordinarily be discarded. In a way, it's kind of like a virtual flea market where money isn't exchanged; goods are brought in and taken away.

To quote from the freecycle.org website: "The Freecycle Network was founded in May 2003 to promote waste reduction in Tucson, Arizona and, in doing so, help save desert landscape from being taken over by landfills. It has since grown a bit to encompass nearly 30 countries and hundreds of thousands of "freecyclers" across the globe. Freecycle provides individuals and non-profits an electronic forum to "recycle" unwanted items. One person's trash can truly be another's treasure!"

The group in my area uses Yahoo! Groups to facilitate their freecycle efforts. People who have an item to give away post a message. People interested in the item email the person who posted the message. After the object changes hands, the original owner posts a note saying the item has been claimed. Part of the group protocol is to use words like "OFFER", "WANTED" and "TAKEN" in the subject line of the message, along with the item that is to be made available.

Today's to-do list: Go shopping for goodies for people I'll see this weekend at OVFF. Look for more jobs. Research the rest of the candidates. And work on my next assignment for my career coach.
