Today wasn't the best of days. I've had better.

This morning, I had to hustle my butt out to Ketttering Munincipal Court to take care of a speeding ticket I got last week. (I was doing 50 in a 35 zone. He got me fair and square. I saw him (parked in someone's driveway), I saw my speedometer, and then I saw the speed limit sign. D'oh!) One of the two deputies doing the security screening was a smartass. I couldn't distinguish between him saying "Don't" or "Go". Since I wasn't apparently following his orders, He asked me, "What's your problem?" I told him I was hard of hearing (and in crowds with lots of background noise, I am). Then I had to get in line to check in with the clerk. I wanted to plead "no contest" instead of guilty, and the clerk was more than happy to accept my credit card payment -- but failed to advise me that paying the fee constituted a "guilty" plea. Ah well. The less time I spent there, being herded around like cattle and treated like less than a number, the better.

And then, breakfast at Bagel Cafe, a trip to the Mall at Fairfield Commons to do some shopping, and a brief visit to New Horizons Metaphysical shop to unwind and ground myself. Back home to check messages, then out again to Skyline Chili for lunch, the library to return some DVDs, and the data warehouse to get some things I'll be freecycling soon.

I got a note from the phone company saying they were going to disconnect me on 12/1 -- that's tomorrow. I went online to pay the bill via credit card, and then followed up with a phone call to ensure that my service won't be disconnected.

I also called up the state unemployment agency (ODJFS) to start an attempt to subpoena phone company records in order to prove that I called them two months ago when they say that I didn't call them. The clerk I talked to had no idea how to do this. (According to the phone company, I'm supposed to go through an attorney, and an attorney friend of mine asked me if it's possible to have the agency subpoena the records.) She did, however, give me the number of the re-determination office in Columbus that I can call. But I'll have to call them tomorrow since my call was made close to 5 PM. And many (but not all) government employees are clockwatchers, so when it's time to go, they go. (Me, I'd stay until the job was done.)

I also got an email message from a recruiter today. He has a Java position in New York City that he's trying to fill. Even though I said "not willing to relocate" in my profile, he thinks I'd be interested or would qualify for the position. This is the second time he's sent me an out-of-town job; last week he told me about a position in the DC area. Is he that hard-pressed to fill these positions? (Does he work on commission?) And is he paying attention to my choices? Sorry, but if someone is so indifferent or blase to what I want, then I might as well not work with him or their company.
