Yesterday, R and M were home sick. During the day, I turned on the weather report and they were predicting that we'd get between 6-10 inches of snow today and tomorrow. While they were napping, I nipped off to the the local supermarket. The market was packed, and so was the traffic around the local mall.

Sure enough, when I woke up this morning, there was already an inch on my front steps. And it was still falling. Took M to day care, where they were having a holiday party. One of M's teachers noticed a few red spots while changing her diaper, and on her advice, took M to her pediatrician. The doctor didn't see any sign of infantigo (or however it's spelled); she beleived the red marks might have been caused by bugs. So we whisked her back to day care.

These are the times I regret not bringing my cross-country skis from my parents' house in Buffalo. (Yep, I come from snow country.) I don't mind the snow -- in fact, I love it! -- but I do mind the ice, the wind, and the cold (in that order). And I hate shoveling. At least with snow on the ground, winter days and nights are a whole lot brighter.

But there are still some yahoos on the road that have no concept of "coefficient of friction", and think they can go as fast on snowy pavement as they go on dry pavement. Last night on the news, I saw a police-cruiser-dashboard-cam image of an SUV fishtailing, losing control, and flipping in the median a few times before it came to a stop. Yikes!

You know it's gonna be interesting weather when Mike Seidel and/or Jim Cantori are doing reports from your town. Does the Weather Channel give them hazardous duty pay? I sure hope so.

Meanwhile, some of my neighbors are shaking their fists at the sky and screaming, "Curse you, Snowmiser!" or variants thereof, usually with obscene or vulgar epithets.

Updated 16:20: Received word that the daycare center is closing early today, and that it will be closed tomorrow and Friday due to anticipated inclement weather. Looks like I may be scarce on LJ the next several days.
