Ok, it's Thursday night, my wife is with the mystery book SIG of one of the local science fiction clubs, and I'm having microwaved leftovers for dinner. (Tip of the day: Meat reheats very well if it's done slowly, like 3-4 minutes on a defrost setting.)

What I'm listening to right now: Al Stewart's "Last Days of the Century". Before that, I had a tape of songs I taped off the radio in the spring and summer of 1984, including "Radio Gaga" by Queen, "Modern Day Delilah" by Van Stephenson, "Baker Street" by Gerry Rafferty (as an oldie), "Walk Through the Fire" by Peter Gabriel, "Is This Love?" by Howard Jones, and "Wouldn't It Be Good" by Nik Kershaw. Shame that the station -- WRXT, in Buffalo NY, which played '80s/modern hits and had a LARGE playlist! -- didn't last very long. I think I've already heard everything on the playlist of the local '80s station -- The Point -- more times than I care to remember. If I called them and asked them for "Making Plans for Nigel" by XTC or "Strange Animal" by Gowan, they'll tell me they've never heard of it, or that it's not on their playlist. Feh.

I've also been reading the LJs of some of the folks I know. For the time being, I'm going to stick to the "generic" LJ format until I can figure out some of the settings and view some more of the "mood icon" sets.

Is there any specific protocol for establishing LJ friends? If I know a person, and read their journal, can I go ahead and list them as a friend? Or should I ask first? More often than not, I follow "vampire rules" -- I rarely go anywhere I'm not invited.

Thanx and a tip of the hat to Xavierism, Webkin, and Braveandcrazy for welcoming me to LJ

I have usually read replied to friend's entries for folks that seemed interesting, then added them is something they said had meaning to me.

I don't know if there is any set protocol for adding LJ friends. I don't add people like mad to my friends list. Some LJ'ers literally have hundreds of names listed as friends, and I honestly don't know how they keep up with all of them!

If someone I know invites someone else to LJ, as Gleepy did with you, I'll usually add them as a friend. Sometimes I'll add a person if I read something they wrote elsewhere, and when I look at their journal it appears to be an interesting read.
