Many of you have probably seen the commercials with the young guys singing the praises of freecreditreport.com. What they don't say in their songs -- but is mentioned as a disclaimer and a caption -- is that in order for people to get their credit report, they have to sign up for a service called Triple Advantage. I suspect this service costs money. Furthermore, my sources tell me that this website is owned and operated by Experian, one of the three major credit reporting companies here in the USA.

So, the folks at the FTC decided to parody them, plugging the site annualcreditreport.com. Here are their commercials.

It seems that I get, on the average, between 1-2 credit card offers every week in the mail. They go from my mailbox to my hands to the "shred" pile. I don't want or need any more credit cards than the one I already have, thank you very much. And I get more than enough junk mail as it is. Instead of having to recycle it, I'd like to stop it at the source.

I think I've said it before here: The credit card industry in the US has become an all-you-can-eat buffet, and the companies will do everything they can in order to make you gorge yourself sick. It's rare that they'll cut you off, or deny credit because "you have too much credit".

Just say no to receiving pre-screened offers. Go to optoutprescreen.com to get your name off the solicitation lists, for either five years, or permanently. Or call 1-888-567-8688 (888-5OPTOUT).
