Goodbye Thirsty Dog.....

I found out last week during a drive-by that my favorite local brew pub had closed its doors.
It was a Saturday afternoon. The parking lot at the Thirsty Dog Brewing Co. was empty. There appeared to be a couple of paper signs on the door. I couldn't read them from the road, so I drove down the service road that lead to the brew pub. One sign said "Closed"; another said "Centerville: Thanks for the memories!"
I honestly don't know why it closed. I thought the beers they produced were very good, and there appeared to be a sizeable and loyal clientele. However, the food quality had gone downhill the past few times I was there. In the past year, the city of Centerville enacted a smoking ban on restaurants. A few months ago, Centerville Lanes closed. (It's been torn down and a Walgreens is being built on the site.) And the economy is still in the doldrums, despite the statistics that Dubya keeps citing. So maybe it was a combination of these factors.
I any event, I'm gonna miss the place. All the beer names had a canine motif. They served potato chips in large dog dishes. Several years ago, R bought me a "Mug Club" membership, which gave me a T-shirt, a mug to use every time I was there, and I got a 25-cent discount on every beer I ordered there.
Fortunately, I can still get some of the beers, including their famous "Old Leghumper" porter. There is another Thirsty Dog somewhere in the Cleveland/Akron area, and they are bottling their beers for regional distribution. I haven't looked for it at Kroger, but Arrow Wine (my favorite beer/wine shop) might have them in stock. (And the Thirsty Dog website is still around and somewhat current.)
