Happy Happy New New.......
Jan. 1st, 2003 11:49 amHAPPY NEW YEAR to all my LiveJournal buddies!
As for what my wife and I did last night, we stayed home and ordered pizza. The weather was yucky (cold and rainy, and talk of freezing rain). We were invited to two parties, each one given by two of the social groups I'm in, but one is mostly comprised of adults, and probably would not have been a fun place for Maria (and for us, espeially if we left early).
We watched one of the DVDs I received for Christmas -- "Monty Python and the Holy Grail" -- and viewed some of the extras, including a revisit to Douan Castle, where they did the principal shooting. I also loved the sing-alongs (with words!) and the rendering of the Camelot song with Lego. Oh yeah -- we tuned into Dick Clark at around 11:55, and watched for 10 minutes. Then we switched to Letterman -- and they were airing a repeat (Robin Williams).
BTW, does anyone know if NIST added a leap second to the atomic clock last night? Not that it really matters to me; I'm just curious. Leap seconds are added (or subtracted) from the time on atomic clocks so that the time they keep -- coordinated universal time (UTC) -- stays in synch with astronomical time (called UT1). The reason they get out of sync is due to the slight variation of the earth's rotation.
Of course, with New Years come resolutions. I don't make resolutions; I set goals. If I don't make the goal, I just carry it over to the following year. Anyway, here are mine, complete with metrics and deadlines:
* Lose 20 pounds by July 1 (I should lose 60 pounds, but I can't start losing the remaining 40 until I lose the first 20, and 1 lb/week is reasonable)
* Exercise more (30 minutes of walking a day, 3 days a week)
* Continue to reduce my intake of salt, fat, and carbs (especially sugar and starchy vegetables such as potatoes) (ongoing)
* Continue to attack the "paper tiger" living in my house (ongoing)
* Continue to reduce my existing credit card debt, and not build up new debt (ongoing)
* Find a new job that I like and pays as well (or slightly less) than my current job by March 1
* Complete the assembly and publication of the last newsletter for the now-defunct Babylon 5 SIG of Mensa by March 1
* Spend more time with my wife and daughter, and less time online
Anyone care to hold me accountable to these goals, and/or care to ask on my progress on a monthly basis? I'll print these out and keep them in a place where I can see them every day.
