VH1 finished their 5-hour miniseries of 100 One-Hit Wonders. If you want to see the entire list, go to the VH1 web site. Nowhere did they specify any details on their ranking criteria. Grr! Although I'm happy that a few of the one-hit wonders I thought of (and mentioned in my previous journal entry) made the list. (By the way, the #1 was The Macarena by Los Del Rio. Damn, that's a catchy tune, and it was in one year and out the other! Wish I could say the same about Achy Breaky Heart by Billy Ray Cyrus. Although you can do the Macarena to that song too, although not as fast. Beats country line dancing.
Whever happened to Good Radio? Years ago, radio stations would take a chance on playing obscure songs, or songs that barely made it into the top 40. Now it seems like I hear the same 200 songs over and over and over again! Have the stations become so focused on the bottom line -- sticking to target demographics, rigid and stovepiped formats, and worrying about people switching the dial because they hear a song they don't know or haven't heard before? This is just sad! I miss the days when I would be exposed to new and different music every day or every week on the radio. Now it's the same old "same-old". Bleah.
Hmmmm....maybe I should consider a second job as a deejay. Wonder what my ratings would be. (Hey, Murray, can you check these figures? I seem to have an audience of two.
