Okay, I ordered both Netscape 4.79 (CD only) and Netscape 6.2.3 (CD and book). Netscape 6.2 hasn't come in yet, but Netscape 4.79 arrived in Monday's mail. And last night, I installed it over my copy of Netscape 4.70 without uninstalling it. So far, so good. No crashes (yet) and all my bookmarks are still there. Whew!

[livejournal.com profile] maedbh7 downloaded and installed Netscape 6.2 and doesn't like it.

Meanwhile, the Netscape 4.7 CD goes into the collection of old software, right next to the books (and CDs) for Netscape 4, 3, and 2, and Internet Explorer 4 and 3. Thank goodness for Half Price Books! The nostalgia/collector part of me wishes I still had a copy of Netscape 1.0 and Mosaic 2.0 (production or a later beta version). (Anyone remember Mosaic?)

On the install queue: Sound Forge XP Studio 5, and Mandrake Linux 8.2 (on the spare machine).

On the "think about buying" list: Eudora Pro 5.1 (nope, don't want any spyware, which is why the "light" vesion is not an option), Norton SystemWorks 2002 (mostly for the new anti-virus stuff since what I have now is 2 years old and the website won't let me download the new definitions file), PartitionMagic 7 and DriveCopy 4 (got an 80 Gb hard drive waiting to be installed).

In the meantime, I'm gonna look for a Mastermind game program for the Palm Pilot.
