Evanescence.....
Dec. 2nd, 2005 10:33 pmor I'm Not Quite an Old Fogey Yet. :-)
Yes, this fortysomething person can enjoy and listen to modern alternative rock, at least some of the time.
I've heard a lot of good things about this band, even if I haven't heard any of their music. Thanks to
bladeofnight for being the first one to mention the band to me. And thanks to
sins_forgotten for offering to loan me a CD.
I often complain that the alt-rock bands are all trying to sound the same. And it's true; I have a hard time distinguishing who's who anymore.
So when I found a copy of "Fallen" at the local library, I checked out and gave them a try.
Wow. I'm impressed. So much so that I bought the CD today.
How can I describe their sound? If Tori Amos went Goth and fronted a grunge/metal band, and add a dash of Nine Inch Nails, you'd have Evanescence.
And the lyrics? Haven't had a chance to look at them, and my ear can't quite decipher them (especially if I'm in the car). I'm guessing they're quite poetic and dark.
