Summer Nights.....
Aug. 9th, 2006 01:29 amOne of the shortcomings about living in a condo -- and not living in a house -- is that I have no backyard to enjoy the summer. (Of course, the plus side is that I don't have to do yard work.) I can't really sit outside at night and take in all the nighttime glory because I don't have a place to do so.
I really noticed it last weekend at the annual Skinner party. They have a backyard that's essentially a sanctuary. It's great for conversation, or just sitting outside and enjoying nature. I could see the stars, hear the night insects, and smell the outdoor smells of trees and plants. *sigh*
Perhaps what I need is to go camping for a week -- or just a weekend -- and get back in touch with the earth. But unfortunately, I don't get paid vacation time, and cash will be tight for a while.
Or I could go for a late-night drive in the country, alone, with the windows down, and the radio/tape/CD player turned off. I used to love to do that. But with gas prices the way they are, it's almost cost-prohobitive.
