This morning, I listened to the annual NPR's Morning Edition reading of the United States Declaration of Independence.

As I lay in bed, thinking of the recent actions of the current administration, some of the spoken lines resonated with me.

I quote from the aforementioned document:

That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles, and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness......But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object, evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security.

We voted in a group of Democrats last November to re-establish the system of checks and balances we once had. But they seem to have no effect, as if their attacks are being parried.

I often wonder what our Founding Fathers would have to say about our current administration.
