I dropped off the two boxes of extra household goods with the guys at Troop 516. They were happy to receive them. (This is their annual fundraiser. Sure beats selling candy bars and popcorn.) They soon started pricing them and putting the items out on the tables.

I also did a quick look around the 3 tents to see if there was anything else that interested me. Nope, nothing did. (Just as well; I didn't have any cash on me.)

Based on past observations, whatever they don't sell gets donated to a thrift store.

Now to start culling goods for next year's sale.

Shout-outs: Happy birthday [livejournal.com profile] ladyat!

Earlier this year, I tried my hand at gardening. I have little room for a garden in my backyard/patio, so I planted a tomato plant in a large bucket. (Yes. I has a bucket. Don't tell the walrus, though. :) ) The plant grew to a nice size, but I only had 3 small tomatoes on it.

What gives? This was a Chef Jeff's Whopper tomato plant! There should have been lots of big tomatoes!

A neighbor who's more into gardening than I am said I should have had a second tomato plant nearby so they could cross-pollinate. Maybe I'll try that next year.

So, I'll consult the folks on LJ. What should I do different next year?

They sweated and had lots of fans going.

My parents live in a house that doesn't have air conditioning. And that's not likely to change. I'm sure that will affect the resale value, when it's time to put the house on the market.

The two apartments and condo I live in now have air conditioning. I don't think I can live without it now.

Even though I air condition down to 76 degrees, it's still a welcome feeling when I come home. (And thankfully, my electric bill hasn't been very high. I guess my neighbors air condition as well, which prevents heat transfer between the units.)

But this week at work was rough. I thought about wearing shorts because we had no A/C in the afternoons. I'm glad I had the foresight to wear breathable shirts, and not heavy polo shirts.

BTW, Christine Lavin wrote a great song called "Air Conditioner". I won't copy the lyrics; click on the link.
