I want my (classic) Empty Vee....
Aug. 3rd, 2006 11:20 pmThe responses from my last post (MTV at 25) jogged my memory a little.
Here are my next 5 all-time favorite videos. Numbers 6-10 on my countdown.
6) Peter Gabriel, "Sledgehammer". More great stop-action animation. I thought I recently heard that the guys from Aardman Animation created this video. (Confirmed. The Wikipedia articles on Peter Lord and Nick Park report that they both worked on the Sledgehammer video.)
7) Madonna, "Vogue". Simly gorgeous filmmaking. (Black-and-white is not dead yet.) And the poses she struck!
8) Nine Inch Nails, "Closer". I first saw this while on vacation in '94. Some of the scenes were so horrific I just couldn't help but watch. And the constant rotation during the video! I've love to see the unedited version sometime, without the "Scene Missing" placards.
9) Enigma, "Return to Innocence". What makes this video memorable is that everything was shown in reverse.
10) The Pretenders, "Don't Get Me Wrong". A miniature Avengers episode, with Chrissie Hynde as Emma Peel. Yow!
There are others further down the list. I'd put Thomas Dolby's "She Blinded Me With Science" at #11. The geek gets the girl (yay!), but I don't remember it as well as the others in my top 10 list. Todd Rundgren and Utopia also got into video early on, but the only one I can remember seeing is the one where they're acting like generals, planning a battle in a war room. (Help me: What song was that?)
Of course, I'd love to get coipes of these. Maybe someday.....
