Mabon calling......
Sep. 16th, 2006 08:46 pmI was feeling a little sad this afternoon. It was such a nice afternoon outside, and I had to spend inside with M. This would have been a great weekend to go camping. Later, at around dusk, I went out for ice cream, and then for a short drive to Waynesville and back with the windows down. Along the way, here were times I thought I smelled burning wood. It made me long for a bonfire, good friends, and maybe a beer or two.
Something else that triggers the "I'm gonna miss summer" response is standing on a beach in the fall, looking at the waves, and remembering the great times I had on that beach during the previous summer.
Somewhere between 1986-88, I was at the summer home of the grandmother one of the members of the fencing club for a social get-together. The house was in Ontario, on the northern shore of Lake Erie. I think we went twice that year -- once in the middle of summer, the other time in the early fall. It was sad seeing the waves come and go, seeing the leaves turn brown and brittle, and feeling a chill in the air.
But the wheel turns, as it always does.
And on the other side of the world, in the Southern Hemisphere, it will soon be spring.

Date: 2006-09-18 01:37 am (UTC)You keep forgetting that M does not like to go outside. The outdoor noises get to her, especially when the cicadas are chirping. And the indoor arcades aren't cheap.

Get the stick out of your butt and stop acting an ass. Keeerist. You'd think I played Cornhole, listened to Lynard Skynard, invented meth, and was prone to screaming at you in Latvian.
Dang.
