I was feeling a little sad this afternoon. It was such a nice afternoon outside, and I had to spend inside with M. This would have been a great weekend to go camping. Later, at around dusk, I went out for ice cream, and then for a short drive to Waynesville and back with the windows down. Along the way, here were times I thought I smelled burning wood. It made me long for a bonfire, good friends, and maybe a beer or two.

Something else that triggers the "I'm gonna miss summer" response is standing on a beach in the fall, looking at the waves, and remembering the great times I had on that beach during the previous summer.

Somewhere between 1986-88, I was at the summer home of the grandmother one of the members of the fencing club for a social get-together. The house was in Ontario, on the northern shore of Lake Erie. I think we went twice that year -- once in the middle of summer, the other time in the early fall. It was sad seeing the waves come and go, seeing the leaves turn brown and brittle, and feeling a chill in the air.

But the wheel turns, as it always does.

And on the other side of the world, in the Southern Hemisphere, it will soon be spring.

Why the heck didn't you just TAKE MS. M OUTSIDE, like, to Sugarcreek Reserve or something? Or to...erm...don't we have some bigass playground around here somewhere? There's gotta be a gagillion parks, cos WE gots one across the street. Or...uhm....(thinking hard, as do not have a small child)...What about that magic castle place on Wilmington with the giant playset of doom and all the games with flashy lights and even short games for small people?

Or does she have that wierd disease where she dies if sulight touches her?

Actually, I was just trying to be helpful. Seriously. I didn't know about the cicadas and Rebecca told me today that she hasn't liked outside since her broken arm and I didn't know that okay? And if money is a problem for arcades and thats something she DOES like (again, I DON'T KNOW, see disclaimer that says "as do not have small child") call Aunt Zon and Uncle Alex if you are having a Dad Stress Day and need to get out. You have my number. We really LIKE M. and she ADORES Alex (no accouting for taste, there...) and don't mind dropping a few bucks so she can crawl through tunnels and play with flashy lights. And heck, she can watch TV at our place too, AND torture Gandalf.

But you know, I can ridicule if you really want me to. I DO get tired of being accused of being a commie pinko traitor whitey KKK smack fiend. Get the stick out of your butt and stop acting an ass. Keeerist. You'd think I played Cornhole, listened to Lynard Skynard, invented meth, and was prone to screaming at you in Latvian.

Dang.
