Lunch today.....
Sep. 28th, 2006 11:30 pmHad a nice lunch with
athenawindsong this afternoon. There's a small Vietnamese restaurant near where I work. We both had the house special soup (which I want to call "hu tieu") and a soft roll (kind of like an eggroll that hasn't been dipped in the deep fryer). On cold and rainy days, such as today was, this is the ideal food. All I needed was some hot tea and the meal would have been perfect.
The soup had chicken and shrimp in it, along with vegetables (incluing broccoli) and rice noodles. Simply yummy.
Could someone tell me what the difference is between pho and hu tieu? Some say it's the type of meat in the soup -- pho uses beef; hu tieu doesn't. Some say it's the type of broth. Some say it's the type of noodles used (rice vs. egg). And some say that hu tieu isn't Vietnamese at all -- it's Chinese. I suppose it depends on where I go to eat.
I know what I'm getting the next time I go back there.
