Recently, I've taken to watching pro sports, or at least have it provide background noise for me. And in the last week or two, I've noticed some edits made to two commercials:

1) Tractor Supply Company: The one where the wives send the husbands out on a mission, which includes volunteering for the local Christmas pageant. The original version had one of the "guys" (a male figurine) saying "Sweet mother of...". Now it just has him grunting.

2) The one for some digital TV with Jessica Simpson. ("I don't know what 1080i is, but I want it.") The original version had her kicking some guy who tried to get too close. Now that scene has been deftly edited out.

What is going on? Are people getting offended and complaining? Or are the commercial writers getting too scared about offending people and trying to be proactive?

Personally, I liked the commercials as they originally were.

I miss adcritic.com.

Here they run the Jessica Simpson commercial as a 60 sec spot with the kicking and a 30 sec spot without it.
