I am saddened, angry, and fearful of what's going to happen in the world. Is this going to be a blitzkrieg, like Desert Storm? Or will this be long and protracted? How many of our men and women are going to come home feet first?

We all know Saddam is a real SOB. Anyone who uses and sacrifices his own people as human shields and guinea pigs for his own gains is not a leader, but the most vile form of tyrant I can imagine. The Iraqi people don't stand up to him out of survival; anyone that does is killed. But is he a direct threat to the US? Is the Iraqi government responsible for 9/11? The answers are no and no. So why are we going in? Because the President, the commander-in-chief, says so.

Obviously, there's more to this story that what the media has told us. But the missing pieces are all deemed "classified information".

This battle has both the Crusades and Gog & Magog written all over it. I worry that this is the Big One....the Armageddon that we've been warned about. If so, maybe we should set up a clock, like the atomic scientists set up the Doomsday clock years ago.
How many minutes to Armageddon? Very few, I'm afraid. And the meek will inherit the Earth....or what's left of it.

War is something which very few people want to do, but sometimes, it needs to be done. I don't support this war, nor the current administration, but I definitely support my troops and my country. The soldiers have no choice but to follow orders....or be dishonorably discharged. I am thankful for those men and women who choose to put their lives on the line so that the rest of us can live in peace and harmony.

Like many people here, I wish for peace. But I don't know if my individual actions are making a difference.
I signed my name to the emergency petition that moveon.org delivered to the UN on March 10. I chose to stay home and not participate in any of the candlelight vigils on the 16th. And I had a lit candle in the window this evening. If these actions brand me a peacenik, then so be it.

And if anyone considers my thoughts and actions to be un-American and therefore treason, I will look them in the eyes and ask them, "You disagree with what I say and do. To paraphrase Voltaire, Will you defend to the death my right to express them?" This country wass founded by a rebellion -- seceding from England in the 1770's.

Tax update: I finished my taxes this past weekend. And as I had hoped, I'm getting some money back. I'd rather get money back than have to pay more. But as an accountant friend of mine once told me, if you're getting money back, that means the government enjoyed an interest-free loan on your money.
