Remembering Linda Stoops.....
Mar. 15th, 2007 10:39 pmOn Tuesday,
filkertom announced on his LJ that Ohio fan Linda Stoops had passed away that day.
I've known Linda, also known as "The Big L", for years. She had created a lot of the artwork and trophies for Millennicon, and was also a dealer at some of the local cons. I remember seeing her at the Ohio Renaissance Festival in the fall of 1992, saying hello to her, and striking a conversation with her friend, Rebecca. (This is the same Rebecca whom I would see at cons, eventually date, and marry. If not for Linda, I would not have met her.)
I'm sorry to say that Linda had a very small set of interests, and showed little or no interest in expanding them. Unlike me, she didn't seem interested in personal growth or stretching herself.
She worked as a shelving clerk at a local library. She kept to herself a lot. She wasn't exactly warm to me in the times I saw her at cons. Rebecca told me she didn't care for men. Also, at filk cons, she was more of a listener than a performer.
The last time I saw Linda alive was at OVFF last year or two years ago. Rebecca had borrowed some books and a tape from Linda, and wanted to return them, now that they were found. I told Linda that she had these items of hers that she wanted to return. Apparently the two of them did find each other at the con, and the items were returned.
I know Rebecca will miss her. I'll miss seeing her at OVFF.
