Cats and glue do not mix.

I have a Coleman lantern. It came with a plastic carrying case. I've never used the lantern; it was one of those things I've had on the wish list for a while. Some time ago, the plastic latch broke on it. Last night, I was mentioning this to
athenawindsong, and she suggested I try to glue it back together.
So I did that tonight, while there was another thunderstorm this evening. The latch is essentially a loop of plastic that snaps onto the case in two places. I had some Gorilla Glue, which I wanted to use instead of superglue because superglue does a lousy job on plastics. The problem is, it hardened. I ended up using a bamboo skewer to get to the glue. So I was able to get some glue out of the bottle and onto the latch.
While I'm doing this, Merlin came by to check on what I was doing. He got too close, and the skewer stuck to his chest. I managed to pull the skewer off of him. So now he has some glue on his fur. I tried to get it off with a washcloth and water, but I don't think much of it came off.
I'm worried that he's going to try to lick it off. I don't have any paint thinner, which would act as a solvent. And if I did, I wouldn't use it on him. I'll just have to wait until tomorrow for it to dry before I brush or comb it out.
Meanwhile, I think the glue has set on the latch, but I'll give it a full 24 hours before I try to use it on the case. If that fails, I'll have to see if I can get a replacement latch from the manufacturer.
