Yesterday was my first Father's day as a father. I didn't treat it like "Dad's Day Off".

I got up early because daughter Maria doesn't quite understand the concept of sleeping in on weekends. So I was up at 7:30, watching the Weather Channel, and conked out on the floor while Maria was in her exersaucer. I got up around 9:00 and had some coffee and breakfast (leftover doughnuts from the day before). The wrather was overcast, rain was being predicted, and I didn't feel like doing anything.....except repeating words (in the character's voices) from the classic Warner Bros. cartoon "A Bear For Punishment". You know the one -- the one where Mama bear keeps saying, "But Henry....it's Father's Day!", and Junior reads his poem called "My Pa".

My wife got up at around 10:00. (Our plan is one of us gets to sleep in on Saturday, and the other one gets to sleep in on Sunday. I slept in on Saturday.) She gave me two cards -- one from her, and one from my daughter (with a little help from Mommy). I also got a pair of jeans and a T-shirt as a gift.

In the afternoon, we trned on VH-1 and watched the "I Love the 80s" retrospective while we cleaned up the pile of magazines and mail in the living room. I assembled three Stor-All(tm) boxes and used one for magazines, one for catalogs, and one for everything else (mail, notes, bills, etc.) I fing that I handle clutter a lot better if it's broken up into a bunch of little piles, instead of one huge one. My wife went through some of the old magazines and catalogs, and threw out some of them.

Oh yeah....I scrubbed the toilet, too. It needed to be done. I also did my weekly chore of cleaning the cat boxes, taking out the trash, and taking out the recyclables.

For dinner, we ordered carry-out at the Olive Garden. The food was decent, but I was standing at the bar for about 10 minutes waiting for my food to be ready. Then I had to steer clear of an accident on the way home.

We closed the evening watching an episode of Iron Chef, and "This Is Spinal Tap".

All in all, a typical Lazy Sunday. I just didn't get to do my usual summer Sunday morning thing of going out to the "backyard" (really, a 12' x 12' patio) and reading newspapers.

Spam update: Well, the bounce-back messages appear to be trickling off. I also got a response from my ISP's tech support -- my friend Diane, whom I've known from Starward Bound and work. She said the same thing happened to her a couple of months ago. She suggested I run a virus checker program just in case, and confirmed my suspicions that I'd have to change my email address if this continued.
