Seven Interests meme....
Oct. 3rd, 2007 10:54 pmComment on this post and I will pick seven of your interests. You then explain them in your journal and re-post.
mseuphrates asked me about......
1. amethystium is a new-age band (or one-man band) that plays very ethereal music. Some of it may have been used on the Weather Channel. But I first heard of them on Echoes, and since acquired all three of their albums: Odonata, Aphelion, and Evermind.
2. basia was the lead singer for Matt Bianco, but left the band to pursue a solo career. Born in Poland, raised in England. Best known for jazzy tunes and incredible multi-tracked harmonies.
3. bobo the lobster god was the result of an elaborate joke at Kent State University. (
amazon_42 tells the story better than I do.) As I recall, it started off with a letter to the editor of the campus newspaper, and it took off from there.
4. moog was one of the premier manufacturers of electronic music synthesizer gear in the 1970s. Not to be confsed with the auto parts manufacturer of the same name. The company -- Moog Music -- is still around, but its founder, Bob Moog, passed away a couple of years ago.
5. grindergirl used to appear regularly on Late Night with David Letterman. Her main act was wielding a grinding wheel, which she'd hold against her steel bustier, creating showers of sparks.
6. kraftwerk is the German band which defined what is now called "electronica". Sequenced rhythms, electronic percussion, robotic voices. The word means "power station" in German.
7. new warrior is what men who have been through the New Warrior Training Adventure call themselves. This weekend retreat for men is held by an international mens' organization called the Mankind Project.
Shout-outs: Happy birthday
allisona!
