Not much to vote for or against this year, being an odd-numbered year. 1 Township trustee (pick 1 of 2), 2 school board members (pick 2 of 3), and two tax levies -- one for parks, one for human services.

There was a statewide issue on the ballot, but one of the sides didn't get enough signatures, so the vote for the issue wasn't going to be counted. The issue was to approve a variance in some recently enacted legislation concerning the operation of strip clubs. Click here for more information.

I don't go to strip clubs, but I don't like the new law which prohibits patrons from getting within 6 feet of a dancer. (How would they get their tips?) Besides, the law was ram-rodded by the Cincinnati-based blue-nose group Citizens for Community Values, a group I detest because they believe their definition of morality is the only one that should matter for everyone. Feh. (FWIW, a coalition of strip club owners are now trying to get the new law overturned on grounds that it is unconstitutional. I hope they win.)

We have a school levy, two city commissioners (one unopposed) and the statewide issue to vote on. Why was that strip club issue even on the ballot if it's not going to be counted?

FWIW, I voted against the issue. It appeared a bit convoluted to me, and the 6 foot zone of exclusion seemed a bit silly to me. If it's not a general health issue legislating morality is a mugs game.
