Computer question....

Is there a utility out there that will step-down a video display to 640x480 x 256 colors? M has some old games that won't play on my computer because the video card driver doesn't have that as one of its settings. There are a few games she has that will force it into that mode, but then it reverts the setting when the game is exited.

I don't know what OS you're running, but at least on XP, you can run in "compatability mode" which includes check boxes for 640X480 and 256 colors. Right click on the desktop icon and choose compatability.

I'm running XP Home with Service Pack 2.

Desktop icon? You mean the one in the toolbar? I tried right-clicking on it and didn't see anything labeled compatibility. But I found something in Help that might do the trick.

Right click on the shortcut on the desktop, select properties. It should have a compatibility tab.

That's what the help file said, and sure enough, there was a compatibility tab for the shortcuts I created on the desktop.

I originally misunderstood you. When you said "desktop icon", I thought you meant "the icon for the desktop".
