Once again, Japanese beetles have taken to my rose bush and have started eating and mating. There aren't as many this year, thankfully. So I went out with my container of soapy water and gently knocked the beetles into the water, where they met a watery demise. I know this an exception to the Rede and "Harm None", but there are times when I need to make exceptions.

M doesn't like looking at the dead beetles in the water. I mention beetles to her and she says, "The Beatles sing 'Yellow Submarine.'" She's gonna have problems with homophones.

While it's true that the Rede sais "Harm None," remember that the first and true harm was done when the retched things were imported to our country. The eccology of North America was not designed to keep them in proper balance. In essence you are only doing what it would take Mother Nature a few thousand years to do herself. We dare not import the natural preditor of the JB and try and help it flurish. That kind of thinking only helps destablize an eccosystem even faster. Just ask Austraila about it's rabbits, rats, and cats.

M is right to not like looking at the dead bugs; and adorable for knowing that the Beatles sing Yellow Submarine. At her age Andrew was insisting that ..." 'Warm Baby' was gonna play Dick Tracy, and Madonna was gonna be 'Breastless MaMoany' ". ... A fact that made me howl with laughter.
