moveon.org wants me to stump in Beavercreek...

This past week, I've been getting daily emails from moveon.org asking me to sign up and volunteer at their Beavercreek office for a big push this weekend.

And i'm thinking, "Why bother?"

First, I don't live in Beavercreek. Beavercreek is in Greene County, a neighboring county which is "deep red". Lots of McCain/Palin supporters there. I'd be knocking on doors only to have them slammed in my face. Not my idea of a good way to spend my Saturday. Besides, I don't like political people knocking on my door.

Second, I'll be working as a pollworker on Tuesday. As far as I know, I need to remain impartial. I don't know if that extends to my political activities before November 4.

Third, there's no way I know of that I can express my feedback to the folks at moveon.org. I'd reply to one of their messages, but there's no guarantee that they read the email sent to the address they use to send out their notices.

So I'll just stay at home today, working on my homework that's due on Monday, and housework, and getting the backyard/patio ready for winter.

Jim, Don't count all of us out in Greene County. Lots of Fairborn and Beavercreek are voting for Obama. Put like you I will be working the polls so I'm not helping out this close to the election. Other then telling people to go vote.

As a pollworker you just cannot show your POV the day you work (no buttons, t-shirts, etc). Yes I know this because I worked many many times as a pollworker. This year they didn't need me, apparently everyone and their mama applied to work this election.

Moveon.org is a great organization and I am sure if you went to their site and sent them a message they would listen. But if you want to think negatively about it all, knock yourself out.

Be happy they did send you to work alone in the pouring rain in west Dayton. That was me last presidential election day. I wasn't scared until people made it clear I wasn't welcome there.

I was out there that day too. I worked for Election Protection as a pollwatcher at a precinct in the Walnut Hills area of Cincinnati. Despite the rainy weather, I had a good time.

The campaign gives you canvassing lists. Right now they are concentrating on undecided voters and Democrats, so any previously identified McCain voters would be excluded.

I am not out canvassing, either. I told my Obama office that if they need more data entered to give me a call. Otherwise, I am working Monday at Democratic HQ downtown and on Tuesday I will be there most of the day taking requests for rides to the polls.
