As for the rigamarole well the people at registration are never comfortable departing from know scripts, unless they get someone else to tell them to. As for the security guard, he was out of line, I hope that 1) you did not pay him. & 2) you reported him to the people in the library at the very least.
His actions may heve been his idea of a joke but they were mercenary and insulting to you. Never allow such an insult to be rewarded. Trickster mode should be reserved for people you actually know or whom you are very sure you will be dealing with regularly enough to employ that type of teaching ploy upon to monitor it properly. The Security guard had no such asurence and therefor most likly was being a jerk. Even if he does follow Coyote Medicine a true practitioner knows when to not use it.
