It's good news, if not perfect. Had Arlen stayed with the Rs, the Ds could have run a serious progressive against him next time and stood a good chance to win. That's harder, I think, in a primary than in the general, because both would run as Ds, which means the negative PR value of the Republican Party affiliation is not in play.


Still, of all the Rs, Specter is one of the least horrible, and if Minnesota finally gets Coleman to shut up, things can Just Get Done. Unless, of course, Lieberman sees it as his patriotic duty to always vote against cloture, which he will.
