It's that time again....time to revisit last year's resolutions, report progress (if any) and set some new goals. Here's my resolutions for 2003 (which I've recapped below).

As I said before, I don't make resolutions; I set goals. If I don't make the goal, I just carry it over to the following year. It sounds like a cop-out, but that's how life works sometimes. Anyway, here are mine, complete with metrics and deadlines:

* Lose 20 pounds by July 1 (I should lose 60 pounds, but I can't start losing the remaining 40 until I lose the first 20, and 1 lb/week is reasonable)

Well, I lost 10 pounds....and gained it back. And so it goes back on the docket.

* Exercise more (30 minutes of walking a day, 3 days a week)

A move to a different office kind of put the kibosh on that. But I've been moved again, and it's about 1/4 mile walk from the car to my cubicle. This one's back on the list, and it's achieveable.

* Continue to reduce my intake of salt, fat, and carbs (especially sugar and starchy vegetables such as potatoes) (ongoing)

This is an ongoing goal which has no completion date or crtieria. Therefore, it stays.

* Continue to attack the "paper tiger" living in my house (ongoing)

Ha! Didn't happen! Back on the '04 list you go!

* Continue to reduce my existing credit card debt, and not build up new debt (ongoing)

Ditto ongoing goal. At least I was able to consolidate the existing debt into a low-interest loan. This will remain on the list until my debt goes to 0.

* Find a new job that I like and pays as well (or slightly less) than my current job by March 1

Well, I switched programs, so I'm still employed for the same people, doing the same things, but for a different department. I consider this one resolved.

* Complete the assembly and publication of the last newsletter for the now-defunct Babylon 5 SIG of Mensa by March 1

Ha! Didn't happen! Maybe in '04, but don't hold your breath.

* Spend more time with my wife and daughter, and less time online

Surprise! This one did happen, but only with lots of prodding by my wife. But this should be an ongoing thing, and therefore goes on the '04 list.

Two out of 8. Not very good. I'll have to do better.

I'll ask again: Does anyone care to hold me accountable to these goals, and/or care to ask on my progress on a monthly basis? I'll print these out and keep them in a place where I can see them every day. Otherewise, I'll forget about them.

I should add a few more for '04. But I'll put that off until tomorrow.
